Palmar striate Xanthoma

Abstract

Xanthomas are characterized by infiltrations of foamy histiocytic cells that contain lipids, clinically they present as macules, papules, or yellow-orange plaques; could be circumscribed or diffuse, with variable location. Within the variety of flat xanthomas, there is the palmar striated xanthoma, which is an uncommon but pathognomonic sign of type III hyperlipoproteinemia. We present a case of a 43-year-old female patient, who presents yellowish, hyperkeratotic papules and plaques located on the palms, mainly on the folds and palmar grooves. In her laboratory, tests of altered liver function and dyslipidemia. A meticulous study of this case is supported; with the histopathological findings we confirmed a palmar striated xanthoma plus her hypercholesterolemia, indicates the strategies for a multidisciplinary approach.
