The role of visualization in the process of teaching and learning of Mathematical Analysis

Abstract

In disciplines that operate with abstract objects, the visualization of concepts can contribute to a better understanding of the contents, to the establishment of forms and methods of work and even to the determination of paths for problem solving. Within the subjects of the Mathematical Analysis discipline, we often need to appeal to visualization and to move between different forms of representation of the contents and mathematical objects. In the present work, some essential ideas related to visualization, visual thinking and its role in the teaching and learning of this branch of Mathematics are shared and systematized. In addition, some visualizations used in her courses by the first author of this paper are exemplified.
